Operation Christmas Child— a project of Samaritan’s Purse, is the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind. During National Collection Week, Nov. 18 – 25, area residents can donate gift-filled shoeboxes—with school supplies, hygiene items, notes of encouragement and wow items, such as a doll or soccer ball. Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief and evangelism organization headed by Franklin Graham. The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world, and, together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will host a blood drive on Monday, Nov 25, from 1 - 6 p.m. at in the Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Forsyth, 10000 State Hwy. 76, Forsyth.Successful donors will receive an all-new Kansas City Chiefs Kingdom T-shirt, while supplies last. Donors can also enter for a chance to win a game day package that includes two tickets and a parking pass to Kansas City’s December 21, 2024, game against the Houston Texans. The Ozarks Running Club will hold its annual Turkey Trot 5K on Thursday, November 28, at 8 a.m. in Branson. This flat and scenic course at Branson Landing is a great family friendly venue to either join in as a family to participate or watch your family as they participate in the Turkey Trot. The Branson Turkey Trot is a family event to kick off the Thanksgiving holiday. The event benefits a different local charity each year, and this year's beneficiary is Pathways Project Coalition of the Ozarks. Elevate Branson will host its annual free community Thanksgiving Day Lunch on November 28 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church Parrish Center, located at 202 Vaughn Road, Branson. This free, family-style meal is for the whole community and includes all the favorite Thanksgiving dishes. Everyone is welcome to attend a Free Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, November 28, from 12:00 to 2 p.m. at Reeds Spring High School, 20277 Hwy 413, Reeds Spring.Retired school cook Shirley Mease and her family prepare this meal every year. Jammin' for Jesus will be held Sunday, Dec. 1, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Hughes Brothers Theatre, 3425 W. 76 Country Blvd, Branson. Enjoy Gospel music by many great artists while supporting a different local charity each month. This month's charity is Suitcases for New Beginnings which provides backpacks and duffle bags for children in foster care in Taney and Stone counties to keep and carry their personal items. They stock these bags with personal care items as well as a toy, a blanket, and a book. Free admission to Branson’s Jammin’ for Jesus with a suggested donation of Hot Wheels, Barbies, and Legos to help with the toy part of the bag packing. Cash is always an appreciated donation as well. A love offering will also be taken. Jammin’ for Jesus concerts are always free and no one is turned away if they are unable to donate.
